Artwork Guidelines for Flawless Custom Packaging
Follow these technical standards to prep your design files. Proper layout configuration ensures your boxes, sleeves, and inserts look sharp, vibrant, and exactly as intended on press.
Preferred File Formats
Vector-based files are mandatory for sharp print lines, crisp text, and accurate scaling without pixelation. Always supply artwork based on the custom dieline template provided by our team.
Adobe Illustrator (.AI or .EPS) — Recommended
Convert all strokes to paths and outline all fonts before exporting to prevent missing font errors on press.
High-Resolution PDF (.PDF)
Export using press-quality presets with embedded vectors and images downsampled no lower than 300 DPI.
Color Modes (CMYK vs. PMS)
Computer monitors display colors using RGB light, but offset and digital printing presses use ink mixes. Submitting RGB artwork can cause unexpected shifts in color output.
- ✓ CMYK Processing: Set your color workspace profile to US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 or GRACoL for standard full-color printing.
- ✓ Pantone Matching System (PMS): If your brand identity requires strict shade accuracy, specify exact Pantone Solid Coated spot colors in your vector file layers.
Bleed, Trim, and Safety Lines
Packaging production involves physical cutting, creasing, and folding. Proper margins protect your text from getting trimmed off during manufacturing.
Typography and Embedded Images
To maintain visual clarity across your custom retail boxes or mailers, adhere to these technical typography and raster resolution guidelines:
- ✓ Outline Fonts: Convert all text elements into vector shapes (outlines/curves) so they do not substitute or fail to load on our prepress software.
- ✓ Image Resolution: All raster photos or bitmap graphics must be saved at a minimum of 300 DPI at actual print size.
